The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) provides direct funding to NGOs

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) provides direct funding each year to hundreds of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working across the globe to strengthen democratic institutions and advance democratic goals.

NED awards more than 2,000 grants annually to non-governmental organizations operating overseas that promote democracy in more than 100 nations.

NED is interested in hearing proposals for impartial programs from regional, independent groups that work to:

Promote and uphold the rule of law and human rights

Support independent media and information freedom

bolstering democratic principles and values

Encourage responsibility and openness

bolster civil society groups

bolster democratic political institutions and procedures

encouraging civic education

encourage the use of democratic conflict resolution

Promote associational freedom

expand the market economy’s base

The general goals of NED, as stated in the NED Statement of Principles and Objectives, must be adhered to by all proposed initiatives.

Please visit Where We Work for additional details on the types of projects NED sponsors in each area.
