Senior Officer in the Region and Security Analyst

Context

The largest volunteer-based humanitarian network in the world is called Federation. The National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies that make up the Federation are its member organizations and formed the organization. The Federation is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, together with National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). “To inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world” is the overarching goal of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC). It aims to provide for the needs and enhance the quality of life of those who are vulnerable before, during, and after emergencies related to health and other crises

A Secretariat with headquarters in Geneva and regional and national offices across the globe serves the Federation. The IFRC Secretary General is in charge of the Secretariat, which serves as the International Federation’s main hub for facilitating connections between and representing National Societies. Supporting the IFRC governance mechanisms, establishing norms and standards, offering direction, guaranteeing consistency, coordinating and holding people accountable for their actions, exchanging knowledge, encouraging cooperation within and respect for the RCRC Movement, and increasing engagement with partners are among the priorities of the Secretariat. The three primary business groups at the Secretariat’s headquarters are: (i) Partnerships, which includes Movement and Membership; (ii) Programs and Operations; and (iii) Management. The Secretariat operates the following five regional offices: Europe (Budapest); Asia/Pacific (Kuala Lumpur); Americas (Panama City); Africa (Nairobi); Middle east and north Africa(Beirut)

Job Objective

In order to ensure that all IFRC (and other RCRC) personnel, assets, and operations are adequately protected and to enable business operations even in the most complex environments, the Regional Security Manager supervises the Regional Security Analyst, who is in charge of managing information relevant to security, including collection, collation, analysis, and dissemination.

In collaboration and partnership with Information Management (IM) relevant counterparts, s/he is in charge of implementing security information management processes, offering technical direction, taking part in or contributing to scenario-building exercises, deploying for technical peer-to-peer support, and networking with stakeholders.

When appropriate, the analyst will offer recommendations based on evidence-based data analytics regarding the location of emerging crises, their severity, and their identification.

The post is out posted in Yaoundé, covering a regional function; so, for administrative purposes, the occupant reports to the Head of Country Cluster Delegation of Sao Tome, Gabon, Guinea Equatorial, and Cameroon.
