Scholarship Opportunities | UNIV’R from UNHCR and AUF and Migrants in Higher Education Network

The UNIV’R project is a university corridor that has been developed by UNHCR in coordination with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Migrants in Higher Education Network (Migrants dans l’Enseignement Supérieur, MEnS). It aims at increasing higher education opportunities (MA level) in France for refugees living in first countries of asylum.
Below is Call for Applications for the following higher education institutions. Each call for applications include the description of the host institution and offered MA, eligibility criteria and application procedure.
- As required by French authorities, only recognised refugees (by State or UNHCR) are eligible.
- The beneficiaries of the project will travel to France on student visas. There is no guarantee they will be allowed to stay in France at the end of the course. Asylum being a right, they could claim it if they want to, but they will have to follow the normal procedure (no protection transfer). It is important to highlight that last December, during the HLOM, French authorities announced their commitment to support the project.
- At the end of the university corridor, students will have different options: required a provisional stay authorization (Autorisation Provisoire de séjour) which allow staying 1 year in France to look for employment; continue their studies in France; change their student permit for a work permit if they find employment (the majority of courses offered in the framework of the project propose a second year of studies in apprenticeship which could facilitate integration within the job market), return to their country of first asylum (make sure you have CTD), etc.
- The implementation of the project will depend on the success of universities’ fundraising activities to cover the subsistence allowances of refugee students. Some universities have yet to secure the required funding.
