The Rory Peck Awards are given to independent journalists and filmmakers and are presented by the Rory Peck Trust. In 1995, two years after independent cameraman Rory Peck was assassinated while filming in Moscow, the Rory Peck Trust was created.
There are four prizes: the Martin Adler Prize for a regional freelance journalist or field producer, the Sony Professional Impact Award for Current Affairs, and the news and features awards.
The awards acknowledge excellence in camerawork across all categories, but they also consider individual effort, initiative, and journalistic skill.
