Call for Applications: Shelter City Netherlands, March 2024
A new call for applications is being made by Justice & Peace Netherlands for human rights advocates who are under danger to take part in Shelter City. Applications must be submitted by CEST (Central European Summer Time) at 23:59 on September 14, 2023.
A global network of towns, organizations, and individuals known as Shelter City supports human rights advocates who are in danger. Human rights advocates in danger can find temporary safe havens at Shelter City, where they can recharge, get specialized help, and interact with allies.
The broad range of activists, journalists and independent media professionals, academics, writers, artists, lawyers, civil and political rights defenders, members of civil society, and others working to advance human rights and democracy worldwide is intended to be included in the term “human rights defender.”
Starting in March 2024, several Dutch cities will host human rights advocates for a three-month period. Participants are expected to leave the Netherlands with fresh motivation and resources to finish their job at home.
