Application for a Grant opened
The Fund for Investigative Journalism offers grants and other forms of assistance to journalists in order to help them publish impactful, objective, and neutral investigative articles.
Grants are available to media outlets, staff reporters, and freelance journalists for their investigative work on books, videos, podcasts, print, web, or broadcast articles.
We offer a variety of grants, including:
Regular awards: For grants up to $10,000, we evaluate applications three or four times a year. The following deadline is on January 29, 2024, a Monday.
We provide small awards of up to $2,500 for early reporting that may lead to more thorough investigations. These funding pay for things like first reporting visits and requests for access to public records.
Grants with expedited review: We occasionally offer grants with expedited review for requests that are so urgent that they cannot.
Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis, and candidates are notified of the results in a span of two to four weeks.
Funds for follow-up: We welcome submissions for prompt coverage of innovative research conducted with Fund funds. Recipients of grants may request expedited evaluation for subsequent awards up to • Threats to American Democracy: Up to $10,000 in funding are available for stories that break new ground and reveal wrongdoing associated with threats to American democracy. Proposals will be reviewed by us in a rolling fashion. Within two to four weeks of the application being submitted, grant decisions are anticipated.
Diversity Fellowship: The Fund for Investigative Journalism is dedicated to promoting diversity in the investigative journalism industry, and as such, we provide diversity fellowships.

Submission of Regular, Expedited, and Follow-up proposals is done via a single application form. Applications for seed funding must be made using a unique form. Applications for Emergency Grants must be filed using their own form. When applications for Diversity Fellowships are open, they can be submitted via this link, which also serves as the application form.
